Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with over 20 years of experience.
Feeling hopeless, on the verge of chronic illness, or exacerbating current health conditions like elevated blood pressure, pre-diabetes, and cholesterol can take a lot out of you. The constant worry and stress can take a lot of your relationships.
Without clear options for change, it's hard to see beyond the present moment, especially when the present moment is really challenging. – I’ve been there.
The good news - life is full of options. Getting clear on which options are best for you is the connection I help you make.
“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” —James Baldwin
The work we will do together allows you to safely explore your challenges, stress, anxiety, and deepest fears while experiencing the joys of improved wellness.
My work as a therapist is deeply grounded in offering a counseling or health coaching experience that is evidenced-based and person-centered, factors in mindfulness, and integrates some aspects of wellness. I provide an environment where individuals feel accepted, respected, and understood without fear of being criticized, condemned, or judged.
My passion for fitness and helping others to think fit, talk fit and be fit came from my own mental and physical transformation. It saved my life. You can address total wellness with me in all aspects as appropriate for you.
No matter what led you here, I will honor and support your journey. My practice is affirming, open, and supportive to all people while offering you the opportunity for understanding and growth.
Are you ready to share your story?
(I’ll go first…)
This is my story
In 2011, I was overweight with no plan or direction.
I saw my family practitioner for my annual visit. I was told that I was at risk for chronic illness, specifically hypertension and diabetes, and would most likely end up taking multiple medications like many of her current patients.
You know the drill.
New Year rolls around, I vow to eat better and workout more. It lasts about a month, if that, and then back to the same routine. Sometime in 2011, my son took swim lessons, and his instructor, Wendy, suggested that I register for the Ramblin’ Rose Triathlon with her. I’m like, really? I can barely swim, and I’m definitely not in shape for a triathlon.
I gave in.
And that was the beginning of my transformation and passion for fitness.
We trained for several months, and there were times I thought what the hell am I doing and wanted to quit, but didn’t.
I did it!
I completed my first triathlon race in October 2011. I didn't place in the top, but I didn't finish last. Everything about it was a struggle (another story) but worth every moment!
I refuse to give up. I continue to stay active and run various races, including 5K, 8K, and 10K races, with the help of a lot of supportive people. In addition to running my first Half Marathon (Bull City Race Fest) in 2013, I have been able to improve my health, my confidence and explore new activities, all while losing 50 lbs along the way.
In March of 2023, I completed my first full marathon.
